Hospitallite 2010

Hospitalite (Kantai)

This film is set in a small downtown Tokyo duplex, a man and his wife run printing business.  They also live here with his young daughter and his recently divorced sister.  They live quietly until Kagawa drops by, he talks and charms his way into a job and a place to live by claiming he is the son of a man who invested in their business.  Soon after, to their surprise, Kagawa’s wife arrives.  She says she is from Brazil but she may be from Bosnia?  The next surprise is that many people come to stay with Kagawa, enough to fill the place and he claims they are relatives of his wife?
The family is so polite they find it hard to refuse Kagawa no matter what happens.  Supposed to be comedy but I didn’t find this at all funny.  The pace is very slow and it seems to take forever to complete small tasks.  The family does not communicate very well and as more people are added to the mix, they seem to fall apart further.  3* (This movie is OK)

96 min, Comedy directed by Koji Fukada with Kanji Furutach, Kumi Hyodo, Tatsuya Kawamura, Byerly Long, Hiroko Matsuda, Eriko Ono, Haruka Saito.

Note:  Imdb 6.5 out of 10, 88% audience on Rotten Tomatoes.
