Oz the Great and Powerful 2013

Oz the Great and Powerful     Based on the novel by L. Frank Baum about the enduring tales of Oz.  This film shows the prehistory of the movie the Wizard of Oz.   Oscar Diggs is barely making ends meet at a Kansas circus.  He’s a fast talking con man but he wants to do something great like the inventor Tomas Edison.  He escapes the grasp of a rampaging strongman into a hot air balloon but he doesn’t see a tornado coming.  The balloon takes him away to the magical world of Oz.
Looks wonderful, beautiful color and imagery, reminds you of the original movie, has star power but needs more spark.  This had the potential to be really good but Disney doesn’t seem to know how to do this without using its regular movie formula.  My rating was going to be lower but I think the second half is much better than the
first, it must need to grow on you as you watch?  3 ½* (I liked this movie)

130 min, Fantasy directed by Sam Raimi with James Franco, Mila Kunis, Rachel Weisz, Michelle Williams, Zach Braff, Joey King, Bill Cobbs, Tony Cox, Stephen R. Hart.

Note:  Blockbuster 3 ½*, imdb 6.6 out of 10, 59% critic 61% audience on Rotten Tomatoes.
