The Human Scale 2012

The Human Scale

In 2012, 50% of the world’s population lived in an urban setting.  By 2050, this will change to 80% living in urban areas.  The design of a city can be both enchanting and problematic.  Danish architect and professor Jan Gehl has studied human behavior living in cities for 40 years.  Some modern cities repel human interaction but we can build cities that include the coming together of people and also intimacy.  Thinkers, architects and urban planners across the globe explore what happens when people become the center of planning.
The information is very interesting along with the examples but the presentation is slightly dry.  More like a teaching film for a class on basic architecture or city planning.  It’s easy to become distracted and not pay attention.  3* (This movie is OK)

83 min, Doc directed by Andreas Dalsgaard with Jan Gehl, Rob Adams, Robert Doyle, Lars Gemzoe, Mark Gorton, Iqbal Hahbib, Dongquan He, Akm Abul Kalam, Abu Naser Khan, Hugh Nicholson, Bob Parker.

Note:  Imdb 7.0 out of 10, 60% critic 84% audience on Rotten Tomatoes, Film Crave 2.00/4.
