Hunters: Season 1 2020

This series is inspired by true events.  It follows a diverse band of Nazi Hunters in 1977 New York City.  They discover that hundreds of escaped Nazis are living in America.  They form a vigilante squad and they are on a quest for revenge and justice.  They soon discover a far-reaching conspiracy and a race against time to thwart the Nazis’ new plans for the Jews.

Jonah Heidelbaum is an aspiring weed dealer in the late 1970’s New York City.  His only surviving family member is his grandmother and she is murdered in what looks like a home invasion.  Jonah has been living with his grandmother and her death hits him very hard!!  Jonah sets out to investigate the murder on his own.  There is graphic violence, profanity, hate speech with racial epithets, many anti-Semitic rants.  There is also the exploration of ethics, morals and is is justifiable to kill people involved in acts of unspeakable evil?  I thought this was good but I didn’t like the conclusion.  4 1/2* (I liked this series)

Special Note:  It is possible there will be a season 2 but this has not been confirmed yet by Amazon Prime.  The reviews are polarizing.  There is criticism for its tone and pacing but praise for its performances.  Some criticism for an inaccurate use of the Auschwitz Concentration Camp, a depiction of prisoners being forced to participate in a game of human chess was called out as "dangerous foolishness and caricature."  The museum was also concerned that the show also "welcomes future deniers."  Director of the USC Shoah Foundation, Stephen D. Smith heavily criticized the show and concluded that "Amazon must not renew it for a second season."  Operation Paperclip was a secret US government program after WWII relocating 88 prominent German scientists to the US and many of them were Nazis.  At the same time, the Russian officials were scheming to get their technology for themselves.
