Stuart Little 1999

This film is loosely based on a book written by E.B. White.  The Little family lives in small house in New York City.  They have a son George but they are thinking of adopting a child.  They visit an agency and there are so many children that they can’t make a decision.  They meet Stuart Little, he is a mouse and he’s been at the agency for a long time.  They really like Stuart and they hope he will fit into their home and lives.  All the Littles love Stuart except Snowbell, the family cat.  She is afraid the other cats in the neighborhood will find out she is living with a mouse??  It doesn’t take long for trouble to start with Snowbell's cat friends.

There are some moments of iffy humor, cat flatulence, cat joking about licking, more profanity than you would think for a family movie.  Plus, a lot of mean words and phrases like shut up and loser.  Some moments of peril and danger.  Issues of adoption and emotional transitions between parents and kids.  Some families with young children might want to watch this before letting the children watch it to see what they think about the above issues?  3 1/2* (I liked this movie)

84 min, Adventure directed by Rob Minkoff and written by E.B. White, M. Night Shyamalan and Greg Brooker with Geena Davis, Hugh Laurie, Jonathan Lipnicki and the voices of Nathan Lane, Chazz Palminteri, Michael J. Note:  Goodreads gives the book 3.89* with 16,231 ratings and 2,695 reviews, Imdb 5.9 out of 10 with 121,877 reviews, Common Sense Media, Nell Minow, age 7+, education value 1*, positive messages 2*, role models 2*, violence 2*, sex 0, language 3*, Roger Ebert 2*, Rotten Tomatoes 67% with 97 ratings, 41% with 495,275 audience scores, .

Special Note:  Most of the scenes with the Littles are shot with heavy amounts of blue and red in the shot.  These colors are most noticeable in their clothing.  British TV actor Jonathan Lipnicki revealed the the character Snowball was based on a cat director Rob Minkoff had when he was growing up.  Rob took the cat actor home after shooting finished because a bond had formed between them.  The first film to hit the number one spot in the new millennium.  The two detectives are named Allan and Sherman.  Allan Sherman was a popular US comedy singer.  This is Columbia’s first live-action/animated hybrid film.  Many actors and actresses were considered for roles in this film.
