Desert Flower 2009

Desert Flower (2009)    A young girl runs away from her home in Somalia to avoid being the fourth wife of an elderly man.  It was a long journey without shoes over rocky terrain to her grandmother's house in Mogadishu.  Her grandmother sends her to London to work for a relative in the embassy until they are called back to Somalia.  She left rather than return home, worked at a hamburger stand and attended school until she is spotted by a famous photographer.  Very moving, especially with the real news of another famine in this poor part of the world.
3 1/2* (I liked this movie)

120 min, Drama directed by Sherry Hormann with Liya Kebede, Sally Hawkins, Timothy Spall, Juliet Stevenson.

Note:  Blockbuster 3*, imdb 7.0 out of 10, 47% critic 75% audience at Rotten Tomatoes.
