Dancing at Lughnasa 1998

Dancing At Lughnasa (1998)     The setting is 1930's Ireland, a young boy recalls growing up with his mother and four aunts.  Each of the women has a different personality and task in the household.  This orderly arrangement is upset when their elderly brother returns from a lifetime serving as a priest in Africa.  The boy has only seen his father about four times in his life.  He chooses this time to make an appearance on his way to Spain, he plans to join the fight against Franco.  The sisters resume their life despite these bumps in the road until they come to a definite crossroads.      I liked this movie, the feel of it, the closeness of the sisters and the care they have for their brother.  3 1/2* (I liked this movie)

95 min, Drama directed by Pat O'Connor with Meryl Streep, Michael Gambon, Gerard McSorley, Catherine McCormack, Kathy Burke, Sophie Thompson, Brid Brennan.

Note:  Blockbuster 3*, imdb 6.1 out of 10, 65% critic 58% audience on Rotten Tomatoes.
