The Impossible 2012

Inspired by the true story of a family’s experiences during the 2004 tsunami in Thailand.  Henry and Maria live in Japan with their three sons, they go on a family Christmas vacation to a nice resort on the coastline.  Just as they begin to settle in and enjoy themselves at the pool, their lives are changed in an instant by a wall of water.  Maria and the oldest son, Lucas are swept away together but they don’t know what has happened to Henry and the two younger boys.
Since this film was “inspired” by a true story, I checked the details about the real family and this film is true with only minor differences from the actual story.  I found this very real and you are drawn into the mental and physical struggles of the parents, children and others involved in the disaster.  The medical facilities are stretched to their limits and the local area is desperately trying to reunite relatives.  4* (I really liked this movie)

114 min, Drama directed by Juan Antonio Bayona with Naomi Watts, Ewan McGregor, Tom Holland, Geraldine Chaplin, Samuel Joslin, Oaklee Pendergast.

Note:  Blockbuster 4*, imdb 7.6 out of 10, 81% critic 85% audience on Rotten Tomatoes.
