Toys in the Attic 2009

This film is made with live action, stop-motion animation and is from the Czech director.  The focus in on a mysterious attic packed with decade’s worth of forgotten items.  The space is divided into the West and the East.  Buttercup is a beautiful doll (she looks like Meryl Streep), she lives in the West and is taken captive by Plaster Head.  He is the despotic Head of State ruler of the Land of Evil in the East.  An army of toys who love Buttercup, including a teddy bear, mechanical mouse and a marionette puppet, set off to stage a rescue attempt.
This is a not for younger children film and is not rated.  It could lead to a lot of explanations and nightmares.  Some of the themes are very dark and strange mixed in with fairy tale scenes.  Seems very retro and belonging to a much earlier period in time such as the as WWII or the Cold War.  3 ½* (I liked this movie)
