The Heart of Me 2002

The Heart of Me     This film is based on Rosamond Lehmann’s 1953 novel, The Echoing Grove.  The setting is London in 1934.  The opening scene is of a funeral for the husband of Mrs. Burkett and the father of Madeleine and Dinah.  Rickie is married to Madeleine and they have a son, Anthony.  Dinah begins seeing her sister's husband, Rickie.  Madeleine has suspicions but she blocks these from her mind.  The story picks up 10 years later when Madeleine and Dinah have lunch together.  Then the story is told in flashbacks.
This is so predictable and nothing happening is a surprise.  It follows the checklist of this type of melodramatic movie.  The going back and forth in the flashbacks makes this choppy.  3* (This movie is OK)

96 min, Drama directed by Thaddeus O’Sullivan with Helena Bonham Carter, Olivia Williams, Paul Bettany, Elearnor Bron, Luke Newberry, Rosie Ede, Gillian Hanna, Andrew Havill.

Note:  Blockbuster 3*, imdb 6.4 out of 10, 50% critic 60% audience on Rotten Tomatoes.
