Call the Midwife Season 8 Episode 3 2019

Valerie helps Betty Marwick and her has been child is born with a cleft palate.  Valerie has 5 other children and she feels very overwhelmed by them and also the needs of the new baby.  Her husband is out at sea and working near Newfoundland. She is thinking about putting the baby up for adoption?  Valerie steps in and helps Betty rearrange her household and get her other children into school more so Betty can make more time for the new baby.   This makes a big difference and Betty changes her mind about adoption.  Trixie, Shelagh and Sister Frances are beginning a new vaccination trial for measles.  This seems to be an innocent childhood disease but it can have complications.
Hazel Becker is a mother new to the area.  She is very nervous in caring for her daughter Dawn because her son died at the same age.  As a complication, there wasn’t a definite reason for his death?  Secretary, Miss Higgins offers some ideas to help Hazel and her husband Martin deal with their grief.  I didn’t know much about a cleft palate but information is given about how to care for the baby and what type of surgeries will be needed.  I thought this was interesting.  Miss Higgins is usually very stern but her demeanor changes when she helps Hazel and Martin.  5* (I really like this series)
