The Warrior Tradition 2019

This film is about the inspiring and largely untold story of Native American people enlisting in the United States military.  Why would they want to serve and fight for the country that took their homelands and killed their people?  During WWI not all Native Americans were citizens of the United States.  They couldn’t be drafted but more than 12,000 Indian men volunteered.  In Vietnam (an unpopular war), 90% of the 42,000 Native people serving were volunteers.  Others have served in WWII and in the Middle East.  They are members of tribes from all over the United States.  Comanche, Apache Tribes of Oklahoma, Mississippi Choctaw, Navajo Nation and the Menominee.
More than a dozen Native American veterans appear in this film.  They have served in the Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force and Army National Guard.  Some native Americans have served to raise their economic circumstances but others for patriotism, pride, rage, courage, practicality and spirituality.  They have deep respect for tribal, familial and national traditions.  This is a very informative and interesting film with a lot going on. 5* (I really liked this movie)
