The Wind Will Carry Us 1999

The Wind Will Carry Us

A Jeep is making its way through the hills of Kurdistan and the countryside is very beautiful.  The three men in the Jeep are not sure if they are going the right way but they have directions they are following.  One of the men is an engineer and the other two men are his assistants.  They have come to the area to film the mourning rituals in this area.  They ask a woman beside the road to make sure they are going the right way and she explains to go a little further.  They encounter a young boy sent by his uncle to guide them to the village and show them where to stay.  He also directs them to the home of an old woman and she seems to be dying.  The villagers are very curious about the reason the men have come to their area.
I could not seem to connect with this film because nothing is really going on?  The two assistants are never shown and some of the other people they meet are not shown?  Many questions but few answers?  Despite the good reviews, this seemed boring, very slow paced and I could not enjoy this except for the scenery.  2* (I didn’t like this movie)

118 min, Drama directed by Abbas Kiarostami with Behzad Dorani, Noghre Asadi, Roushan Karam Elmi.

Note:  Imdb 7.6 out of 10, 96% critic 85% audience on Rotten Tomatoes, Amazon 4* out of 5* with 38 reviews.
Special Note:  This film is an Iranian film and it won the Grand Special Jury Prize (Silver Lion), the FIRPRESCI Prize and the CinemAvvenire Award at the Venice Film Festival.  The title is a reference to a poem written by Iranian female poet Forough Farrokhzad.
