Late Bloomers 2011

Late Bloomers     Adam and Mary attend an award ceremony for an architectural project completed by Adam.  The next morning, Mary has a memory lapse and she doesn’t remember how they got to their hotel.  She has some medical tests that don’t show anything wrong.  Her doctor suggests exercise and getting involved in some kind of volunteer work now that she is retired.  She needs to be more active.  Adam is struggling at the office, the new project is to design a senior living center.  He doesn’t feel this is the type of design work he would like to do.  He starts working with the younger associates on a museum design.  Adam and Mary seem to be growing apart even though they don’t want this and didn’t plan for this to happen.
This film lets everyone down, all the actors and the viewer.  Hurt and Rossellini deserve better, the screenplay and directing are weak.  The acting brings warmth to the characters but it’s too predictable.  You can feel yourself growing old along with the movie!!  3* (This movie is OK)

95 min, Drama directed by Julie Gavras with William Hurt, Isabella Rossellini, Doreen Mantle, Kate Ashfield, Aidan McArdle, Ara Dobroshi, Luke Treadaway.

Note:  Imdb 5.4 out of 10, 43% critic 35% audience on Rotten Tomatoes.
